Joel Talbert (RDToLA Co-Founder)

Jon Johnson and Joel Talbert founded Repertory Dance Theatre of Los Angeles (RDToLA) in 1981. The Company‚Äôs roots sprang from an after school Government Funded CETA program in 1979, at the Old Historic Ebony Showcase Theatre. The CETA programs concept was to give black youth summer jobs that would provide future opportunities. When the CETA program ended it gave birth to RDToLA. Jon was petitioned  to "stay and work with them", as a result, Nick Stewart, founder of the Ebony Showcase Theatre  allowed the classes to continue.

RDToLA began its professional training in 1980 and by 1981 they launched their first National Tour. I n 1984 Mayor Bradley asked RDToLA to represent the Los Angeles Olympic Games as Ambassadors during an international tour. The touring schedule took the company to Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Japan.  The  company was well received. Jon Johnson was undeniably one of the visionary vanguards of his generation.

Jon Johnson unfortunately transitioned this life on January 24, 2002.  However, before his death it was his request that Zan Zetina (original member of RDToLA) assume responsibility as the Executive Director of Repertory Dance Theatre of Los Angeles along side   Joel Talbert who  remains Co-Founder .  Currently RDToLA offers programs at various programs through collaborations with other nonprofit programs.
